Service Description

Fermentation is an ancient technique of preserving food. The process is still used today to produce foods like wine, cheese, sauerkraut, yogurt, and kombucha. Fermented foods are rich in beneficial probiotics and have been associated with a range of health benefits — from better digestion to stronger immunity. Fermentation is a process that involves the breakdown of carbs by bacteria and yeast. It results in a distinctive tart flavor and is used to make foods like yogurt, cheese, and sauerkraut. Fermented foods have been associated with several positive health effects, including improved digestive health, stronger immunity, and increased availability of beneficial nutrients. The bacteria that live in your gut have a significant impact on your immune system. Due to their high probiotic content, fermented foods can give your immune system a boost and reduce your risk of infections like the common cold. Fermented foods are packed with probiotics, healthy bacteria that help your body maintain a balance of microorganisms. Join fermenting guru Ahti, for a workshop that will provide you with an in-depth introduction to everything you need to know about step-by-step lactic fermentation techniques and how to do it at home. This is a hands-on workshop. You will be peeling, grating and chopping and you will learn how to make four different ferments: - Sauerkraut - Japanese condiment called Lime Kosho - Fermented carrots with turmeric and ginger - Blueberry ginger water kefir At the end of the class, you will take home all your fermentation creations, along with the knowledge necessary to do further experiments by yourself. Please bring your own sharp chopping knife and apron with you. Coffee, tea and biscuits are provided and some fermented samples are available to taste.
